Why not insurance?
This is a question that I’ve been receiving more frequently lately. How about I share some statistics that have been published in the last week:
First: let’s remember that our “healthcare” system has been set up FOR PROFIT.
UnitedHealthcare is a common private insurance in the United States and they just came out with nearly $6.1 billion in net income during the third quarter of 2024.
In my personal opinion, this should be criminal. For several reasons, but let’s start with some basics:
This company is commonly known to make it extremely difficult for PT to be reimbursed for their services
This company limits the amount of visits allotted per year & rarely budge on this despite medical necessity
Now, how do are they making such a profit? By cutting reimbursement (AKA underpaying PTs) and denying PT services to people who need them. This all despite the fact that the person behind the screen/phone has no idea what is actually happening with this human being. What they look at are diagnosis codes and what care they’ve had — NOTHING about the actual human being.
Health insurance companies do not care about you’re wellbeing or your goals for your life. Once you demonstrate “good enough” function they stop paying. What they care about is their bottom lines. Obviously since they’re making profits into the billions.
For comparison, the median PT income is $99,710 (in May 2023). Most often to make more than six-figures a PT has to work in management (taking them away from client-care) and/or start their own clinic.
All this to say that The Persistence Project is an out of network/cash-based due to being a primarily concierge clinic reimbursement from insurance does not cover costs as a lot of time is lost due to driving to you.
In addition, I get to promise that every decision made in your plan of care has YOU at the center. Our goal is to get to you to your goal and beyond - not just “good enough”. Our lives is a project that is ever changing & you deserve to enjoy it how you want to!
